Three-Member Theft Ring Nabbed at Secunderabad Railway Station

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Railway Police, working alongside the Railway Protection Force, have arrested three individuals accused of orchestrating a systematic theft operation at Secunderabad Railway Station.
The suspects—Barsha Khairuyar, 26, Khushabu Kumari, 21, and Uttam Khairuyar, 21—hail from West Bengal and were taken into custody on May 1 following a joint operation. According to investigating officers, the three were family members employed as labourers who devised a scheme to pilfer valuables from train passengers across multiple states in search of quick financial gain.
The gang operated with a carefully planned strategy. Barsha and Khushabu would travel with their infants, allowing them to blend in as ordinary passengers. They would deliberately create crowded conditions near AC coach entrances while positioning themselves to redirect passenger attention. Using dupattas as cover, they would unzip handbags and extract valuables. Uttam maintained a lookout position at a distance, signalling alerts whenever danger appeared imminent.
The trio had arrived in Secunderabad five days prior to their arrest and had already conducted several thefts aboard trains using this identical method. On April 27, they targeted passengers boarding the Vande Bharat Express at platform one. During this incident, Khushabu shoved a passenger to create distraction while Barsha covered the victim's handbag, unzipped it, and removed a purse containing gold ornaments.
Early on May 1, the accused returned to Secunderabad Railway Station with intentions to commit further offences. Their suspicious conduct caught the attention of police personnel, who proceeded to apprehend them. Upon questioning, all three individuals admitted to the theft charges.
Police recovered 72 grams of gold ornaments from the arrested individuals, with the seized items assessed at ₹10.8 lakh. The operation was coordinated by SHO B. Saieashwar Goud, alongside officers S.V. Subba Reddy and T. Madhav. The crime team and women police staff participated actively in the apprehension, while RPF personnel including Bhavani Shankar Saraswat provided crucial support. Senior officials oversaw the case management and subsequent investigation.
Railway and Road Safety IGP K. Ramesh Naidu commended the police team's performance, announcing that suitable recognition would be granted to the officers involved in the operation.
