Hyderabad Man Arrested for Operating Motorcycle with Fraudulent Registration Plate

Hyderabad's traffic enforcement division has arrested a man for operating a motorcycle bearing a counterfeit registration plate, a scheme authorities say was designed to circumvent traffic penalties.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Karthika Jaya Kumar, works as a private sector employee and resides in Deepthisri Nagar, Madinaguda, within the Serilingampally jurisdiction. Authorities discovered the violation during routine traffic enforcement operations and registered a criminal case at Banjara Hills Police Station.
According to investigators, Kumar had affixed the registration number TG07AE0286 to his Yamaha MT motorcycle. This particular registration actually belonged to a Suzuki Access scooter registered to a different owner. The motorcycle's legitimate temporary registration number was listed as TG07KT/R0826.
By deploying the fraudulent plate, Kumar allegedly managed to avoid traffic enforcement action and associated fines. However, his scheme had an unintended consequence: traffic violations he committed were incorrectly recorded against the genuine vehicle owner's record.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police and Banjara Hills Police collaborated to investigate and resolve the case.
Authorities have emphasized that the use of forged or altered registration plates constitutes a serious criminal offense under applicable laws. Traffic officials noted that law enforcement agencies are increasingly relying on sophisticated monitoring infrastructure, including closed-circuit television and automatic number plate recognition technology, to detect such violations.
Members of the public can report instances of suspicious number plate misuse through multiple channels: the Hyderabad Traffic e-Challan portal, official email correspondence, or the WhatsApp helpline maintained by traffic authorities.
