KTR Calls for Transparency on Government Contracts, Pledges Support for Young Contractors from Marginalised Communities

Hyderabad: At a demonstration held by the SC, ST, BC and Minority Contractors Association at Indira Park on Saturday, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao pressed the state government to release a White Paper detailing all government contracts distributed since Congress came to power. He contended that the government has reneged on commitments made to contractors from historically marginalised communities.
Addressing the gathering, KTR raised questions about whether the fruits of government expenditure and debt had extended to disadvantaged sections of society. He referenced pledges made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during the SC and ST Declaration event in Chevella, where the Chief Minister reportedly committed 18 per cent of government contracts to Scheduled Castes and 12 per cent to Scheduled Tribes. KTR also cited an announcement made in Kamareddy where the Chief Minister assured that Backward Castes would secure 42 per cent of government contract allocations.
According to KTR, the current administration has concentrated major government contracts among a narrow set of beneficiaries rather than broadening opportunities for contractors from marginalised communities. He pointed to instances where contractors from SC, ST, BC and minority backgrounds have been sidelined from significant infrastructure and education sector projects.
KTR further alleged that BJP Members of Parliament have benefited substantially from government contracts. He claimed that MP Konda Visweshwar Reddy captured a considerable portion of tenders for the Young India Schools initiative, while MP C.M. Ramesh secured road construction projects valued at ₹1,300 crore.
Beyond contract allocation, KTR also took issue with the government's approach to agricultural matters, asserting that farmers harbour grievances regarding crop purchase arrangements. He cautioned that the BRS would escalate its agitation campaign unless the grievances of marginalised communities receive satisfactory resolution.
Looking ahead, KTR expressed optimism about the party's prospects, stating that the BRS intends to establish 50,000 young contractors from weaker sections should it regain power in 2028. He indicated that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao would spearhead this initiative.
