Warangal Poised for Transformation with Rs.17,000 Crore Development Initiative, Says Union Minister

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy unveiled an extensive development roadmap for Warangal on Monday, underscoring the scale of infrastructure investment transforming the city. The minister presented a development report card detailing nearly Rs.17,000 crore in projects aimed at bolstering the region's economic and infrastructural landscape.

Kishan Reddy emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accorded the city elevated status in the Centre's development agenda. He also noted that the BJP has not previously held power in Telangana, before extending an invitation to Congress and BRS leadership to engage in public discussion regarding the Centre's role in advancing Warangal.

Railway Infrastructure Advances

Significant progress marks the Kazipet Railway coach factory, which has achieved 90 per cent completion, with manufacturing operations slated to commence by January 2027. The minister announced that construction of a 30-acre railway terminal will commence the following month. Additionally, the modernized Warangal railway station has already been inaugurated.

The Centre has channeled Rs.2,909 crore into the Kazipet-Balharshah third railway line, while work continues on the Kazipet-Vizianagaram third line. The long-awaited Warangal airport is expected to become operational in the near term.

Economic and Educational Development

Warangal has been selected as home to one of seven Mega Textile Parks across India. The minister revealed that Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Sammakka-Sarakka Tribal University later in the year.

Educational infrastructure has received substantial attention, with the Centre sanctioning 77 PM SHRI schools and an MSME Technology Centre for the district.

Healthcare and Urban Infrastructure

Healthcare facilities have expanded with the completion of a Rs.108-crore Critical Care Block, alongside ongoing construction of another Rs.130-crore facility. The Centre has prioritized road connectivity through the Hyderabad-Warangal and Warangal-Karimnagar national highways, allocating Rs.999 crore for cement roads and Rs.1,250 crore for additional road works.

The Warangal Ring Road project, valued at Rs.500 crore, has reached 50 per cent completion. Public transportation has received a boost with the allocation of 50 new city buses.

Under the Smart City Mission and Urban Challenge Fund, implementing agencies have completed 70 projects valued at Rs.1,380 crore, with an additional 40 projects worth Rs.414 crore currently under execution.
