German Language Skills Essential for Nurses Seeking Global Opportunities, Says Telangana Minister

Hyderabad — Telangana's Labour, Employment and Mines Minister Dr Vivek Venkatswamy has stressed the importance of language proficiency and cultural adaptation for healthcare professionals aiming to build careers overseas, particularly in Germany.
Addressing participants in the Triple Win Programme at an event held at Tourism Plaza, Dr Venkatswamy emphasised that while Germany presented substantial employment prospects for nurses, success required mastery of the German language alongside familiarity with international workplace norms and professional practices.
"Hard work and commitment are the foundations of achievement in foreign employment," the minister stated, highlighting that Telangana's workforce possessed considerable capability to excel on the international stage when equipped with determination and self-assurance.
Dr Venkatswamy underscored the pivotal role nurses occupy in healthcare delivery, noting their capacity to instil confidence and reassurance in patients. "When nurses provide reassurance, half the battle against illness is already won," he remarked, extending greetings on International Nurses Day and recognising nursing as among the most honourable professions.
The minister advocated for sustained focus on German language acquisition, emphasising that effective communication skills remain indispensable in medical practice. He pointed out that contemporary online learning platforms have democratised access to foreign language education, urging trainees to invest at least one hour daily in language development and skill enhancement.
Drawing from personal experience, Dr Venkatswamy recounted difficulties he encountered while attempting to secure bank financing in Chennai due to his unfamiliarity with the local language, illustrating how linguistic barriers can impede professional advancement. He referenced Tamil cinema personality Vijay to demonstrate how technological proficiency, communication abilities, and social media engagement collectively contribute to individual success.
The state administration has committed budgetary resources specifically for TOMCOM programmes aimed at facilitating international employment pathways. Dr Venkatswamy indicated his intention to engage Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy regarding proposals to establish additional nursing educational institutions and expand nursing course seats throughout Telangana.
Labour, Employment and Training Commissioner Harichandana reinforced the minister's message, sharing her personal journey of acquiring Hindi language skills and stressing the necessity of resolute determination in language acquisition. She noted that the state government and ministerial leadership have implemented targeted initiatives to create overseas employment avenues for youth, with TOMCOM functioning to ensure quality international placements.
Highlighting the evolution of language training accessibility, Harichandana observed that individuals previously invested over Rs 1 lakh for foreign language instruction, whereas the government now provides such training without charge. She advised programme participants to engage in regular German conversation with peers and utilise leisure time for language practice, while simultaneously cultivating understanding of German cultural contexts.
TOMCOM Director Kanthi Wesley revealed that the organisation has established a partnership agreement with Germany's Federal Employment Agency. To date, 46 nurses have successfully completed German language training through the initiative. Among these, 15 have secured employment offer letters, with seven already employed in Germany.
During the event, Dr Venkatswamy engaged in online interaction with nurses presently working in Germany, inquiring into their professional experiences and inviting them to communicate any challenges or support requirements encountered during their overseas assignments to government authorities.
