Telangana Government Commits to Procuring All Grain This Season, Minister Assures Farmers

Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister Dr G. Vivek Venkataswamy has pledged that the Telangana government will purchase all grain produced by farmers in the current season as part of a significantly increased procurement initiative.
The minister visited the IKP grain procurement centre in Tekumatla, located in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district, where he reviewed ongoing procurement activities and held discussions with farming communities. He noted that the region is experiencing an unusually abundant harvest this year.
The government acquired 1.10 lakh tonnes of grain during the previous procurement cycle. This year, operations have been extended through June 6, with authorities targeting procurement of 1.70 lakh tonnes—a substantial increase from the previous year's figures.
To support these expanded operations, the government has established three storage warehouses in Peddapalli. While acknowledging some delays stemming from insufficient labourers and transport vehicles, the minister stated that the administration is working to resolve these challenges. He noted that the government has already contacted Singareni Collieries to arrange additional transportation support.
During his visit, Vivek Venkataswamy criticised opposition BRS leaders, accusing them of attempting to foment unrest among farmers despite the ongoing procurement process. He alleged that these leaders were seeking to incite protests following their electoral setbacks. The minister cautioned that any attempts to damage public property or disrupt law and order for political advantage would face severe legal consequences.
Vivek Venkataswamy also questioned BRS leader Balka Suman regarding claims about expenditure of Rs 100 crore during the previous election campaign.
The minister reiterated the Congress government's commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring that grain procurement proceeds smoothly throughout Telangana.
