Former Minister Held Under House Arrest During Planned Urea App Protest

Hyderabad police detained former minister and BRS MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy at his residence on Tuesday, preventing him from joining a farmers' demonstration against the urea app in Nizamabad district.

Officers arrived at his Banjara Hills home and restricted his movement as thousands of farmers gathered in Tadwai mandal of Ellareddy constituency. The protest, organised under the direction of Ellareddy BRS in-charge Jajala Surender, sought to press the government to scrap the urea app and reinstate the previous distribution framework.

Senior BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao swiftly objected to the detention. He stated that Vemula Prashanth Reddy had been heading to Hyderabad to participate in the farmers' demonstration.

Harish Rao accused the state administration of neglecting farmers' urea requirements and criticised the police action as undemocratic. He asserted that suppressing opposition figures would not quell public discontent with government initiatives. The BRS leader predicted that farmer grievances would mount in the coming weeks.

Calling for an immediate end to the urea app, Harish Rao urged authorities to distribute adequate urea supplies through the former system. The party reiterated its demand to restore the earlier mechanism for urea allocation to farmers.
