Hyderabad: A high-level assessment of Telangana's welfare schemes took place at the Secretariat on Monday, with Union Secretary for Social Justice and Empowerment Sudhansh Pant leading the evaluation of centrally-backed initiatives targeting disadvantaged populations.

The review brought together Special Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh and a range of senior state administrators to examine how effectively welfare programmes are reaching their intended beneficiaries.

Among the schemes scrutinised were pre-matric and post-matric scholarship programmes, civil rights safeguards, infrastructure for SC and BC hostels, support services for transgender rehabilitation, and the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).

Pant acknowledged that Telangana has demonstrated considerable headway in rolling out its welfare initiatives. Yet he flagged that substantial work remains to broaden programme coverage and strengthen their real-world effects.

The Union Secretary underscored the necessity for sustained commitment to improve the socio-economic standing of vulnerable populations. He emphasised that more robust execution mechanisms would help guarantee that assistance reaches those who qualify for it.

Pant committed to the Centre's involvement in resolving outstanding concerns flagged by state authorities. He signalled that enhanced central funding would be forthcoming to bolster Telangana's welfare infrastructure.

The state's Parental Support Act drew particular praise from Pant, who characterised it as a forward-thinking initiative strengthening social safety nets.

Ghosh presented a comprehensive overview detailing scheme performance, existing initiatives, and deployment approaches. He also identified structural and procedural bottlenecks requiring central guidance and intervention.

The gathering included Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary (Finance), along with officials overseeing SC, BC, and Disabled Welfare portfolios, and representatives from additional state departments.
