Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has instructed state Energy department officials to maintain consistent electricity availability across Telangana as the summer season drives up consumption levels.

During a meeting held Thursday at Praja Bhavan with senior department officials, Vikramarka examined the state's current power supply situation. The discussion centred on escalating usage driven by elevated temperatures, increased air conditioning usage, and sustained agricultural consumption.

Department representatives informed Vikramarka that demand from both residential and commercial sectors had surged considerably. Agricultural consumption has similarly intensified pressure on the power grid, though officials confirmed the state's electricity infrastructure remains functioning without significant strain.

To address potential shortages, Vikramarka directed officials to acquire additional power through power exchanges as needed. He emphasised that the government's core commitment is protecting consumers from service interruptions, even as the broader national electricity market faces constraints.

Essential services require special attention, with Vikramarka instructing officials to guarantee uninterrupted supply to hospitals, water supply systems, and critical infrastructure. The Energy department has been asked to implement round-the-clock supervision to prevent any service lapses.

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the maximum utilisation of all operational power generation facilities within Telangana and called for optimised management of hydroelectric resources. As temperatures are projected to climb further, he urged utility companies to strengthen coordination and develop contingency strategies. Field operations teams have been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance.

Vikramarka reinforced that supplying dependable, quality electricity to all consumer categories remains the government's paramount objective.

The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary of Energy Navin Mittal, TRANSCO CMD Krishna Bhaskar, GENCO CMD Harish, SPDCL CMD Jitesh V. Patil, and other departmental officials.
