Telangana Agriculture Minister Rolls Out Green Manure Seed Subsidy Programme

Hyderabad: Telangana's Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao unveiled a green manure seed distribution programme on Tuesday as part of the state's "Raithu Nestham" initiative, calling on farmers across the state to embrace scientific cultivation methods.

At an event held at the Secretariat, the Minister engaged directly with farming communities throughout Telangana, emphasizing approaches to enhance soil health and promoting high-value crop cultivation.

Subsidy Support for Green Manure Seeds

The state government is providing a 50 percent subsidy on green manure seeds under the new scheme, Tummala Nageswara Rao announced. He urged widespread adoption of these seeds to boost organic content in soil.

Incorporating green manure crops into farmland strengthens soil fertility and significantly lowers the need for chemical fertilisers, the Minister explained. This shift can address long-standing agricultural challenges while reducing input costs for farmers.

The state contains approximately 1.26 lakh acres of alkaline soil, Tummala Nageswara Rao noted. Gypsum application can restore such land to productive use, he added, recommending scientific approaches to overcome soil-related obstacles.

Beyond traditional cultivation patterns, farmers should explore crops with superior yields and stronger profit margins, the Minister advised. He specifically highlighted oil palm as a dependable income source offering long-term stability for agricultural households.

Warehouse Development Agreement Signed

The day's announcements included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between TG Agros and the TG Warehousing Corporation, witnessed by the Minister.

Under this agreement, the Warehousing Corporation will develop modern storage facilities spanning 23 acres of government land, generating 85,000 metric tonnes of storage capacity. The corporation will finance the entire project, with completion targeted within 15 months.
