Cognizant, the IT services firm listed on NASDAQ as CTSH, has entered into a strategic partnership with travel technology provider Travelport and AI research company Anthropic to overhaul how travel platforms are developed and maintained.

The three-way collaboration will leverage Anthropic's Claude AI model to streamline Travelport's software development, testing and maintenance processes across its travel distribution and retailing systems. The initiative seeks to accelerate the rollout of AI-powered features to airlines, hospitality companies, travel management firms and online travel agencies globally.

Addressing Legacy System Constraints

Travel booking infrastructure built in earlier decades now faces mounting pressures. Manual work by travel agents has intensified as they construct complex multi-segment itineraries piece by piece, while a disconnect has emerged between how modern travelers use AI tools to research trips and what existing platforms can process and execute. The partnership targets these structural gaps by creating intelligent systems that bridge AI-driven travel planning with actual confirmed reservations.

For travel agencies and corporate travel managers, Travelport's enhanced platform will handle more of the analytical and organizational tasks currently performed manually by staff. This includes rapidly presenting suitable flight and hotel combinations, streamlining ticket modifications and rebooking procedures, and incorporating real-time disruption forecasting into agent workflows. One practical example: agents booking for business travelers could be shown routes with statistically lower cancellation or delay risk. Travel management companies report that freeing just sixty minutes per agent daily translates to millions of dollars in yearly efficiency gains.

Online travel agencies face a distinct problem: vacationers increasingly turn to AI assistants for trip planning, yet the underlying booking systems cannot fully grasp the nuance and complexity of what travelers actually want. Through Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP) architecture, Travelport's systems will convert natural language travel requests directly into confirmed bookings with real-time seat and room availability, converting that capability shortfall into business value.

Strategic Vision and Implementation

Ravi Kumar S, who leads Cognizant, emphasized the industry context: "Travel runs on extraordinarily intricate technology systems globally, and those who will dominate the sector are investing today in how that infrastructure is constructed. This partnership equips Travelport to accelerate development and boost quality at enterprise scale in response to a shifting travel marketplace. That reflects what our AI Builder approach delivers."

John Mangelaars, Travelport's chief executive, outlined the significance of the collaboration: "The AI transformation is not something on the horizon—it is unfolding right now. Organizations that adapt swiftly and strategically will establish the future of travel technology. Teaming with Cognizant and Anthropic provides us a powerful AI advantage. Anthropic supplies the most advanced AI capabilities; Cognizant contributes engineering resources and implementation expertise to scale these tools; Travelport contributes the travel infrastructure and partner relationships connecting everything to actual distribution and booking operations."

Mangelaars further noted the importance of MCP: "Anthropic created MCP, which enables AI systems to interact with external applications and information directly. Selecting the organization that developed this protocol was an obvious choice. Their emphasis on safety, reliability and oversight is equally critical: travel is a sector where trust matters, sensitive information is involved, and mistakes carry real consequences."

Scope and Timeline

This represents a comprehensive transformation initiative rather than a restricted trial. Cognizant and Anthropic will work with Travelport to fundamentally reshape development practices across the company. Initial efforts will concentrate on Travelport Trip Services—the system managing reservations, modifications, cancellations and customer assistance—with an MCP-based interface layer built above it. Development is proceeding on Travelport's cloud infrastructure, with a significant update coming soon. Market-ready capabilities for customers are anticipated to arrive within the year.

Rich O'Connell, overseeing partnerships at Anthropic, commented on the initiative: "Travelport's goals with Cognizant exemplify how modernization functions in intricate sectors. Claude excels at reasoning through extensive, complicated code repositories—precisely what travel systems require. We're pleased to support Cognizant as a key collaborator in bringing Claude into additional enterprises."

Cognizant is incorporating Claude into its internal development infrastructure and workflows, including Neuro-san, the publicly available toolkit underpinning Cognizant's Neuro® AI agent framework. Claude will facilitate automated coding, test generation and code review processes. Its extended context capacity can examine Travelport's full software repositories and extract embedded operational rules at scale—one of the most technically complex aspects of enterprise-level system upgrades. Collectively, these features should meaningfully accelerate Travelport's development timelines.

The Travelport engagement demonstrates Cognizant's AI Builder methodology: integrating sector-specific expertise, comprehensive systems architecture and ongoing operational responsibility to transition enterprises from AI experimentation to production-scale deployment. Anthropic functions as a core collaborator within Cognizant's international AI network. This engagement extends the strategic alliance between Cognizant and Anthropic that commenced in November 2025.
