Hyderabad Steps Up Enforcement Against Wrong-Way Drivers With Automated Penalty System

Hyderabad's traffic authorities have intensified enforcement against motorists who drive the wrong way to circumvent U-turns, deploying sophisticated automated camera networks at congested intersections across the city and other major urban centers in the state.

The technology operates without requiring manual intervention from traffic personnel. The system captures both photographs and video footage of violations, then automatically generates penalty notices based on vehicle registration data.

Drivers caught by the automated enforcement face fines of Rs 1,235, which includes applicable user charges. The traffic police have already implemented the system on a trial basis at several key junctions throughout Hyderabad.

Early results show the automated cameras are generating substantial numbers of penalties against drivers traversing in prohibited directions. The initiative aims to address a significant source of road accidents while strengthening overall traffic management in the metropolis.

Traffic officials believe the automated penalty mechanism will encourage safer driving habits among the motoring public and contribute to reducing accident rates on city roads.
