Congress Party Requests Extension of Electoral Enumeration Period in Telangana

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has appealed to the Election Commission for an extension of the SIR enumeration period, requesting that the 30-day window be increased to 60 days. The party cited operational bottlenecks in the distribution of enumeration forms to voters throughout Telangana.

A delegation from TPCC, headed by Election Commission Coordination Committee Chairman Pulipati Rajesh Kumar, met with Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy to present their concerns. The meeting also included Committee members Gopishetty Raghavender and Dr. Baikini Lingam Yadav.

According to the delegation's submission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are tasked with conducting door-to-door visits to distribute enumeration forms to voters registered in the 2025 electoral roll. However, the process has encountered significant delays in multiple regions across the state.

The Congress representatives highlighted a critical constraint affecting implementation. Many BLOs who simultaneously serve as ASHA workers were diverted to Pulse Polio immunization drives, which prevented them from carrying out form distribution activities for a three-day period.

The delegation also raised concerns about the status of Congress booth-level agent lists. They reported that these lists had not yet been transmitted to BLOs in several Assembly constituencies and urged the election authorities to expedite their delivery.

During the meeting, Pulipati Rajesh Kumar indicated that Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy has committed to escalating the extension request to the Election Commission of India. The CEO also pledged to communicate fresh directives to District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers via video conference to address the implementation challenges and operational issues highlighted by the Congress delegation.
