Telangana Agriculture Minister Directs Seed Suppliers to Secure Kharif Stocks

Hyderabad: As preparations intensify for the upcoming Kharif season, Agriculture, Marketing and Cooperation Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao brought together seed companies, fertilizer dealers, agricultural officials, scientists and technology partners for a comprehensive review of readiness measures.

The meeting focused on three critical areas: seed availability, fertilizer logistics and technological integration in farming practices. The Minister emphasised that seed companies must maintain robust stocks of the seven paddy varieties endorsed by the Telangana Government, which officials noted command strong domestic and international market appeal.

Thummala instructed the companies to prioritise timely distribution across the state, ensuring farmers have uninterrupted access to quality seeds. The selected varieties are considered crucial for enhancing productivity and meeting export demand.

Digital transparency in fertilizer distribution

The Minister also examined the rollout of the Urea App, a digital platform designed to streamline fertilizer distribution. The system connects supply channels directly to land records and cultivation patterns, creating a transparent and demand-responsive mechanism.

Fertilizer dealers provided feedback on the platform's operational performance, sharing ground-level insights about implementation challenges and opportunities. Officials used this input to identify areas for improvement in service delivery to farming communities.

Real-time crop surveillance on the agenda

Looking ahead, Thummala discussed satellite-based crop monitoring systems that can detect pest infestations and disease spread as they occur. The technology would enable authorities to issue rapid advisories and facilitate preventive measures in affected regions, potentially reducing crop losses and protecting yields.

The Minister outlined an integrated strategy combining efficient supply chains, market-responsive agricultural planning and cutting-edge monitoring technologies. This multi-pronged approach aims to strengthen Telangana's agricultural ecosystem and enhance farmer prosperity across the state.
