Kidney Care Society Opens Sampa Bose Memorial Centre for Affordable Renal Treatment in Kolkata

Kolkata has gained a new charitable facility dedicated to kidney care, with the Kidney Care Society formally launching the Sampa Bose Memorial Charitable Renal Care & Research Centre near Science City. The initiative represents an effort to expand access to affordable, quality renal healthcare services for economically disadvantaged patients throughout West Bengal.

The facility was made possible through a substantial donation of a six-storied building from the Pratidin Media complex by industrialist and philanthropist Swapan Sadhan "Tutu" Bose. The centre has been established in memory of his wife, Sampa Bose, whose experience with Chronic Kidney Disease motivated the creation of this institution. A core principle guiding the centre's operations is ensuring that financial hardship does not prevent patients from receiving necessary kidney treatment.

The inauguration brought together prominent figures including Locket Chatterjee, General Secretary of BJP West Bengal; Swami Sparshananda Ji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission; actors Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Mithu Chakraborty; Dr. Pradip Mitra, former Director of Medical Education with the West Bengal government; Tamoghna Ghosh, District President of the BJP in North Kolkata; Srinjoy Bose and Shoumik Bose, industrialists serving as trustees; Dr. Pratim Sengupta, a leading nephrologist and transplant physician who serves as President of the Kidney Care Society; and Debashis Dutta, President of Mohun Bagan Club, among numerous other dignitaries.

Chronic Kidney Disease has emerged as one of India's most rapidly expanding health concerns, prompting the need for expanded access to affordable treatment options. The new centre aims to address this gap by providing dialysis, diagnostic services, critical care, and holistic patient support services within a single location. The facility's establishment aligns with the Kidney Care Society's stated mission of achieving "Good Renal Health for All" and expanding kidney care availability across all segments of society.

Dr. Pratim Sengupta addressed those gathered, stating: "Today, we are not merely inaugurating a hospital – we are beginning a movement towards equitable kidney care. Built on compassion and driven by purpose, this centre reflects our unwavering commitment that every patient deserves dignity, quality treatment, and hope, irrespective of financial circumstances."

Srinjoy Bose remarked on the centre's significance, noting: "The inauguration of the Sampa Bose Memorial Charitable Renal Care & Research Centre marks the beginning of a transformative journey in affordable kidney care. The launch of its 18-bed Advanced Day Care Dialysis Unit, supported by critical care facilities, diagnostics, a pharmacy, and a dedicated team of specialists, will provide quality treatment with dignity to those who need it most. As the centre expands into a 50-bed charitable renal hospital with a world-class research laboratory and integrated wellness facilities, it will stand as a lasting legacy of compassion, innovation, and hope for countless families across West Bengal and beyond."
