Telangana to Launch Six-Day Youth and Sports Initiative Beginning May 18

The Telangana government is set to roll out a comprehensive Youth and Sports Week spanning six days from May 18 to May 23, integrated within the broader Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika 99-day initiative. The Department of Youth Services and Sports will coordinate activities throughout the state, targeting physical fitness promotion, leadership cultivation, youth empowerment, civic responsibility, and job prospects among the younger demographic.
Officials have crafted a series of engaging activities designed to maximise public engagement and ensure state programmes reach citizens directly through grassroots participation.
Opening Day Focuses on Health and Wellness
The inaugural day on May 18 carries the theme "Fit and Active Telangana." The state will organise fitness initiatives including marathons, walkathons, yoga sessions, meditation classes, aerobics, and Zumba activities in districts across Telangana. A 5-kilometre marathon is scheduled at L.B. Stadium in Hyderabad, with district headquarters also hosting similar events. Walkathons and wellness programmes will extend to mandal-level headquarters.
Career Development and Skill Enhancement on May 19
Career and Skill Development Day will follow on May 19, featuring virtual sessions on skill development pathways, Sports University opportunities, Skill University programmes, and Agniveer recruitment information disseminated by government officials.
Youth Leadership and Sports Engagement
May 20 will see Youth Leadership Summit activities, including youth parliament sessions and painting contests centred on social and developmental issues, with participation from schools, colleges, and youth organisations. The following day, designated as "Play and Participate – Sports Day" on May 21, will feature sports and recreational activities supervised by District Youth and Sports Officers statewide.
Community Service and Employment Focus
On May 22, the "Serve and Support – Youth for Clean Telangana" component will mobilise youth volunteers, non-governmental organisations, athletes, and elected representatives in cleanliness initiatives at parks, water bodies, sports complexes, and public gathering spaces. The concluding day on May 23, themed "Udyoga Sadhana – Connecting Talent with Opportunities," will bridge young talent with employment and career pathways while celebrating accomplished sportspersons.
Implementation and Participation
District Collectors have been directed to oversee coordination, awareness campaigns, and active community involvement throughout the week. Officials are ensuring all logistical arrangements—including venue setup, water supply, seating, and sound systems—are in place for seamless event execution.
The government has appealed to students, youth groups, sports bodies, NSS and NCC volunteers, and the general public to participate actively in the week-long celebrations.
