Hyderabad: The Telangana government kicked off its Youth and Sports Week on Sunday, rolling out a series of fitness and athletic initiatives as part of the broader Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika programme. The week-long drive aims to inspire young people to embrace active living and participate in sports activities.

Senior government figures including Ministers Vakiti Srihari, Ponnam Prabhakar and AP Jithender Reddy were present at the inaugural events. They were joined by Sports Authority Chairman Shivasena Reddy, Mal Reddy Ram Reddy and Sports Authority Managing Director Sony Bala Devi.

At the LB Stadium Tennis Complex in Hyderabad, organisers held a Zumba session that drew participation from both government officials and ministers. During the event, attendees stressed the importance of making fitness a regular part of daily routines to maintain good health and wellbeing.

A five-kilometre walkathon was also flagged off as part of the celebrations, designed to raise awareness about the value of physical activity, sports development and community involvement in athletic pursuits.

The festivities will span from May 18 through May 23 across various districts in Telangana, encompassing sports tournaments, fitness programmes, public awareness initiatives and activities geared toward engaging youth across the state.

According to the government, this initiative underscores its commitment to advancing sports infrastructure and empowering young people. The programme also seeks to foster a culture of health and fitness that will contribute to building a more active and robust society overall.
