Telangana Appoints Fresh Leadership to State Women's Commission

Hyderabad — The Telangana government has constituted a new leadership team for the state's Women's Commission, filling the positions of chairperson and members through Government Order No. 637, issued on May 11, 2026.
Gadwal Vijay Laxmi has been named as the commission's chairperson. Kasoju Sankaramma, Chityala Swetha, Shashikala Yadava Reddy, Sada Laxmi, N Radha Bai, and Ujma Ashai Shakira have been appointed as members.
The appointments are made under the provisions of the Telangana Women's Commission Act, 1998. Those selected will hold office for a two-year term, according to state officials.
Vijay Laxmi succeeds Nerella Sharada, who served as chairperson until the new appointments. Sunitha Laxma Reddy previously held the position.
The commission operates with a mandate to safeguard women's rights and advance gender equality across the state. Its responsibilities encompass examining issues affecting women, addressing complaints through investigation, and offering legal counsel. The body also implements initiatives focused on women's empowerment and social welfare.
