Telangana Positions Welfare and Development as Dual Drivers of Economic Growth

Hyderabad: At the 49th State-level Bankers' Meeting held Friday at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka articulated the state government's strategic vision of intertwining social welfare with economic advancement.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that welfare schemes, economic self-reliance, Future City infrastructure, women empowerment, and Musi Rejuvenation have emerged as the pillars of Telangana's development model. He characterized welfare and development as the "twin engines" propelling the state's progress forward.
The meeting brought together key officials including Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Special Chief Secretary Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Finance and Planning Secretary Gaurav Uppal, RBI Regional Director Chinmaya Mohan, and SBI CGM Nilesh Dwivedi.
Ambitious Economic Targets
Bhatti outlined an ambitious blueprint to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. While acknowledging the scale of this objective, he expressed confidence in its achievability, citing the state's robust economic momentum.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted comparative performance metrics that underscore Telangana's economic strength. The state's growth rate of 10.7 per cent outpaces the national average of 8.2 per cent. Similarly, per capita income in Telangana stands at ₹4.18 lakh, substantially exceeding the national figure of ₹2.1 lakh. These indicators, Bhatti noted, position Telangana among India's leading states economically.
Banking Sector Performance
The financial sector's contribution to this trajectory remains substantial. Total bank deposits across Telangana have reached nearly ₹9.43 lakh crore, while advances have climbed to ₹12.34 lakh crore. The state's credit-deposit ratio of 130.78 per cent represents an exceptional achievement in banking metrics.
Agricultural lending has particularly impressed the Deputy Chief Minister. Against a target of ₹1,65,297 crore, banks have disbursed ₹1,68,401 crore in farm loans, achieving 101.88 per cent of the designated objective. Bhatti commended banking institutions for their support to farmers and allied sectors through instruments such as Kisan Credit Cards.
He reiterated that agriculture continues to form the economic foundation of Telangana, with banking support extending to dairy farmers, fishermen, and allied workers.
Focus on MSME and Youth Lending
Recognizing Telangana's status among India's fastest-growing industrial states, Bhatti called upon banks to augment lending to micro, small and medium enterprises. He urged financial institutions to extend more favorable lending terms to women entrepreneurs as well as members of Dalit and tribal communities.
The Deputy Chief Minister also advocated for reframing educational loans as investments in human capital development. He underscored how student lending contributes to building the state's future workforce.
Bhatti reiterated the government's demonstration that welfare and development need not be competing priorities. He affirmed that welfare-centric development shall remain integral to Telangana's long-term economic strategy.
