Hyderabad: At a meeting of the Tourism Advisory Committee held at Tourism Plaza in Begumpet on Tuesday, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao outlined an ambitious vision for transforming Telangana into one of India's leading tourism destinations. He instructed state officials to create a detailed, time-bound strategy encompassing infrastructure development, destination branding, and comprehensive promotional efforts across the region.

The Minister emphasized that Telangana possesses considerable strengths that remain largely untapped. He called for leveraging the state's rich heritage, cultural assets, religious sites, natural reserves, forests, water bodies, and established hospitality sector to create a cohesive tourism narrative.

Focus on Essential Infrastructure

Recognizing gaps in visitor experience, Jupally Krishna Rao prioritized immediate upgrades to fundamental amenities at key tourist destinations. He highlighted the necessity of improvements in sanitation facilities, temporary lodging options, accommodation tents, glass structures, roadside conveniences, and visitor support infrastructure.

The Minister proposed establishing a signature annual celebration in Hyderabad spanning November and December, designed to draw both Indian and international visitors. He suggested the event should evolve into a financially sustainable venture through corporate partnerships and sponsorships. Additionally, he recommended enhancing the urban landscape through public art installations, gardens, and thoughtfully designed community spaces.

Priority Destinations and Cultural Programming

Several major tourism sites have been identified for accelerated development, including Somashila, Warangal, Ramappa, Yadadri, Golconda, Taramati Baradari, and Nagarjuna Sagar. To strengthen visitor engagement, the Minister directed officials to organize regular cultural performances at prominent tourism centers during weekends.

Committee participants put forward recommendations to position Hyderabad as a global center for tourism and destination weddings. They advocated for expanded initiatives in medical tourism, wellness retreats, temple tourism, golf-focused tourism, and film tourism sectors.

Marketing and Execution

Members stressed the importance of aggressive domestic marketing while identifying the Middle East and Central Asia as priority international markets for promotion.

Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad noted that work on amenities, tourism infrastructure, mobile accommodations, historical fortifications, and investor engagement was already progressing. She underscored the critical need for enhanced brand positioning and accelerated project delivery.

The Minister instructed officials to present concrete proposals at the next review meeting and demonstrate tangible progress on key initiatives. He assured the committee that valuable suggestions would be carefully considered and incorporated into the state's tourism development roadmap.

The meeting was attended by TGTDC Managing Director Gauthami, Director of Tourism Laxman Ranjith Naik, and members of the Tourism Advisory Committee.
