Telangana to Modernise Special Police Battalions with Technology and Enhanced Welfare

Telangana's Director General of Police C.V. Anand has announced a comprehensive modernisation programme for the state's Special Police Battalions, focusing on technological advancement and enhanced welfare measures to strengthen security and emergency response infrastructure.

At a review meeting held at the Special Battalions headquarters in Jubilee Hills on Tuesday, Anand outlined priorities including accelerated recruitment, expanded technological capabilities, increased vehicle resources, and improved housing, healthcare and welfare provisions for personnel.

The DGP characterised the Special Battalions as instrumental in multiple critical functions, ranging from law and order maintenance and election security to disaster response, VIP protection and specialised operations.

During the review, Anand addressed administrative, technical and welfare-related concerns while issuing directives to expedite ongoing initiatives.

Drawing on his earlier postings as Superintendent of Police in Nizamabad and Warangal, Anand reflected on the historical significance of the former Andhra Pradesh Special Police, which played a pivotal role in counter-insurgency operations against Naxal movements. He highlighted how the force provided essential support to civil police during high-risk missions, noting that police stations frequently faced attacks during that period.

Since Telangana's statehood, the state has established 13 Special Police Battalions. Anand recognised their contributions to election security, festival management, VIP protection and disaster relief efforts.

The DGP specifically commended the battalions' recent performance during flooding in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, where personnel evacuated thousands of residents and assisted in protecting lives and property.
