Telangana Launches Overseas Scholarship Programme for Minority Students: Up to ₹20 Lakh Available

Hyderabad: Minority students in Telangana pursuing advanced studies abroad now have access to substantial financial support through a new scholarship initiative launched by the state's Minorities Welfare Department.
The Telangana overseas scholarship scheme for Spring Season-2026 extends educational opportunities to students who have earned admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at leading international institutions. The programme covers institutions across ten nations: the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Germany, South Korea, Japan, France and New Zealand.
Recipients of the scholarship can access financial assistance reaching ₹20 lakh. Beyond tuition support, the government will also contribute toward travel costs, offering one-way airfare assistance capped at ₹60,000 or the actual ticket price, depending on which amount is lower.
Prospective applicants must complete their registration via the Telangana ePASS portal, which will remain open from June 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026, closing at 5 pm on the final day.
The programme targets students who have received their admission letters for postgraduate or doctoral studies between January 1, 2026, and June 30, 2026. Before proceeding with applications, candidates are advised to review all eligibility requirements outlined in the scheme guidelines.
Documentation plays a crucial role in the application process. Applicants are required to furnish official academic transcripts directly from their respective universities or colleges. When presenting physical copies and supporting materials at District Minorities Welfare Offices, parents or guardians must accompany the student applicant. The deadline for submitting these documents in hard copy form is July 31, 2026.
The Minorities Welfare Department has cautioned applicants about the verification process that follows submission. All certificates and credentials will undergo thorough scrutiny. The department has warned that discovery of fraudulent or counterfeit documents during this verification phase will result in criminal action being initiated against the responsible parties.
