Telangana Unveils Ambitious Plan to Build One Lakh Low-Income Housing Units in Hyderabad

The Telangana government has rolled out an extensive affordable housing scheme to construct one lakh LIG houses across Hyderabad, designed to improve housing conditions for low-income and middle-class families in the city.

Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced that the administration has commenced the inaugural phase of this ambitious undertaking. On Wednesday, the minister, along with Minister Azharuddin and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, conducted field visits to assess potential sites spanning Nampally, Malakpet and Bahadurpura constituencies.

The inspection team also surveyed areas including Kulsumapura, Afzal Sagar, Kaladera and Gaddiannaram, where they examined available vacant land and derelict government structures suitable for redevelopment.

Leveraging Government Assets for Housing Development

The scheme prioritizes the utilization of underutilized public lands and abandoned government buildings as the foundation for the housing initiative. Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy emphasized that this approach would expand housing accessibility for the economically weaker sections of society.

The minister underscored that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's administration remains dedicated to enhancing urban living standards across the city. He further noted that the LIG housing programme would address the acute shortage of affordable accommodation while delivering quality housing for economically disadvantaged and middle-class residents.

Project Progresses Toward Construction Phase

Officials have already begun the process of identifying and demarcating land parcels for the scheme's first phase. The administration is simultaneously preparing detailed layouts, infrastructure blueprints and provisions for essential civic amenities required for the housing complex.

Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy stated that the government is expediting the project's execution timeline, with construction activities expected to commence at the earliest opportunity.
