Hyderabad — In a significant achievement for digital crime prevention, Telangana's law enforcement has emerged as the nation's leader in recovering stolen and lost mobile phones. The state police have successfully traced and restored more than 1.24 lakh devices to their rightful owners using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

The recovery figures paint an impressive picture of operational effectiveness. From April 19, 2023, through April 26, 2026, law enforcement blocked approximately 4.82 lakh devices through the system. This led to the successful tracing of 2.82 lakh phones, of which 1,24,850 were ultimately recovered, unblocked, and returned to victims.

CID Director General Charu Sinha credited the accomplishment to persistent ground-level policing and unwavering commitment from officers across jurisdictions. Notably, she highlighted that Telangana achieved this distinction despite implementing the CEIR portal later than several other states, positioning the region as a benchmark for effective system utilization nationwide.

Enhancing citizen access to the recovery system has been central to the state's success. Telangana Police integrated the CEIR platform with the Telangana Police Citizen Portal, enabling residents to file complaints directly through either channel. This seamless integration has expedited the complaint registration process and accelerated the tracking of devices across administrative boundaries.

The expanded accessibility means citizens can now initiate requests to block or trace their lost or stolen phones through familiar police channels, reducing bureaucratic friction and improving overall response times in device recovery operations.
