The Telangana government has substantially increased minimum monthly wages, introducing a new pay structure that will take effect from June 1, 2026. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unveiled the revision at the State Secretariat on Thursday, with Labour and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkataswamy in attendance.

The new wage framework establishes four worker categories—unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled—with wages determined across three zones within the state. The changes are expected to reach more than 1.11 crore workers statewide.

Under the revised structure, unskilled workers will earn ₹16,000 monthly, a substantial jump from the previous ₹12,750. Semi-skilled workers will see their wages rise to ₹17,000 from ₹13,152. Skilled workers will receive ₹18,500 compared to the earlier ₹13,772, while highly skilled workers will command ₹20,000 against the prior ₹14,607.

Revanth Reddy characterised the wage increase as the most significant labour welfare measure implemented since Telangana's inception. He emphasised that the Congress administration remains dedicated to safeguarding workers' rights and welfare. The Chief Minister took the opportunity to criticise the previous BRS government, stating it had overlooked the needs of the labour force. He also acknowledged the historical contributions of veteran labour leader G. Venkataswamy and noted that Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy was advancing his father's legacy through contemporary welfare initiatives.

Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy stated that the wage revision reflected the government's commitment to ensuring workers maintain dignity and improved living standards. He described the measure as instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for working-class families across the state.

In related remarks, Revanth Reddy encouraged young people to broaden their employment horizons beyond conventional IT sector positions and opportunities in the United States. He highlighted that nations like Germany, Japan, and Singapore present substantial employment prospects. To prepare youth for these global opportunities, the Chief Minister advocated for skill-focused education and noted that the state government has established a Skills University.

The government has positioned the wage increase within its broader framework of welfare and inclusive development, viewing it as a transformative step for workers throughout Telangana.
