Telangana Government Pursues Scientific Approach to Minimum Wage Revision

Hyderabad: A Cabinet sub-committee assembled on Monday at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan to examine revisions to minimum wages across Telangana, with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stressing the administration's dedication to enhancing the welfare of workers through a methodical approach.

The meeting brought together Ministers Gaddam Vivek Venkatswamy, Ponnam Prabhakar and Duddilla Sridhar Babu, alongside Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy and key bureaucrats. During deliberations, Bhatti Vikramarka outlined the government's intention to establish a wage revision framework grounded in scientific principles specific to Telangana's context.

The panel examined wage structures implemented across other significant Indian states, seeking to identify best practices that could be adapted locally. Officials reported that the committee prioritized aligning wage increases with workers' genuine requirements, taking into account inflation pressures and the rising cost of living as primary considerations in the revision exercise.

The committee also evaluated potential ramifications stemming from the new Labour Code being formulated by the Central government, recognizing the need to coordinate state-level decisions with anticipated national legislative changes.

According to officials, the panel endorsed incorporating proven wage models already functioning elsewhere in the country, rather than developing entirely new frameworks. This approach aims to combine experiential learning with local adaptation.

Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated that the government's overarching objective is positioning Telangana as an attractive destination for workers. He emphasized that before finalizing any wage revision decisions, the administration would actively solicit perspectives from various stakeholder groups across society.

The Deputy Chief Minister projected that the revised wage structure would positively impact hundreds of thousands of workers spanning both formal and informal employment sectors throughout the state.
