Telangana Jagruthi Pushes for Prof. Jayashankar Memorial at Tank Bund

Hyderabad — Telangana Jagruthi has made a formal appeal to the state government requesting approval for a statue of Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar to be erected at Tank Bund.

The organisation emphasised that Prof. Jayashankar was instrumental in advancing the cause of Telangana statehood, viewing a separate state as the fundamental remedy to the region's challenges. Throughout his life, he remained steadfastly committed to the Telangana movement, championing the statehood cause until his death.

Telangana Jagruthi voiced concern that despite twelve years having passed since Telangana attained statehood, the government has yet to formally commemorate Prof. Jayashankar through an official statue. The organisation contends that Hyderabad should properly recognise his pivotal role in the movement and has proposed Tank Bund as the suitable location for such a monument.

The group has requested that the government expedite the approval process and complete all necessary arrangements by August 6, which marks Prof. Jayashankar's birth anniversary. Telangana Jagruthi has also volunteered to undertake maintenance responsibilities for the surrounding greenery and landscaping at the proposed site.

According to the organisation, the statue would serve as a fitting tribute to Prof. Jayashankar's legacy as one of the foremost intellectual architects of the Telangana statehood movement.
