Hyderabad: State Labour, Employment and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy engaged in talks with Israeli government representatives and industry partners on Wednesday to explore pathways for overseas employment for skilled workers from Telangana.

The discussion convened at the TOMCOM office in Masab Tank, with the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited facilitating the session under the auspices of the Labour and Employment Department.

According to officials, the programme seeks to position Telangana's construction workforce in Israel's renovation sector. The initiative is being carried forward in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation International and Israel's Population and Immigration Authority.

Focus on construction sector placements

Israeli delegates presented employment prospects and outlined potential areas of cooperation with Telangana's administrative apparatus during the meeting. Labour Secretary Dasari Harichandana and Employment and Training Director Kanthi Wesley participated alongside TOMCOM representatives.

The Israeli government has expressed a requirement for 1,200 workers for the renovation sector. The training framework encompasses ceramic tiling, plastering, block masonry, and drywall installation, with skill development assistance being extended to selected candidates.

Assessment process underway

A preliminary skills evaluation was administered to 4,247 applicants from November 17 to 19, 2025. Of these, 2,059 candidates advanced to the subsequent phase. The final skills assessment for 1,200 shortlisted candidates is currently in progress, running from May 5 to May 10, 2026, as part of Phase-I.

The Telangana administration views this programme as a significant step toward broadening overseas employment prospects for the state's trained workforce.
