Telangana Sets National Standard with Enhanced Housing Support for Economically Disadvantaged

Telangana is distinguishing itself nationally through its housing initiatives for the economically disadvantaged, according to Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. Speaking on Wednesday, he highlighted the state's Indiramma housing scheme as a model that other regions are measuring themselves against.

The defining feature of Telangana's approach is the financial support extended to beneficiaries. Under the Indiramma scheme, the state provides ₹5 lakh per house—a figure that stands alone among Indian states. By contrast, other states typically allocate approximately ₹1.7 lakh per unit, making Telangana's commitment substantially more generous.

The Minister characterized this disparity as a reflection of the government's dedication to improving living conditions for vulnerable populations. He emphasized that the enhanced assistance demonstrates a principled approach to addressing housing shortages among the poor.

In Nalgonda constituency specifically, the government has committed to constructing 10,000 homes within the next three years. The Minister indicated that an additional 5,000 units could potentially be built if circumstances permit. Currently, approximately 700 houses are already in various stages of construction within Nalgonda town.

The expansion of housing efforts is being complemented by broader development initiatives. Civic infrastructure improvements are being prioritized across Nalgonda town as part of an accelerated development agenda. Land identification efforts are underway along routes connecting Devarakonda, Narketpally, and Tipparti, with officials assessing potential sites for establishing an Indiramma housing colony. The government will make final decisions on development following these assessments.

The Minister attended a housewarming ceremony for an Indiramma residence constructed by beneficiaries Srinivasa Rao and Padma in the 41st division of Nalgonda town. He also addressed a proposal concerning land allocation for journalists near the Collectorate, indicating that the matter would be reviewed in consultation with district officials and potentially escalated to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy if necessary.

Addressing agricultural concerns, the Minister urged farmers to exercise patience regarding paddy procurement. He attributed delays to elevated moisture content in grain, as flagged by mill operators. Approximately 50 percent of the procurement process has been completed, with officials working to accelerate remaining operations.

With summer conditions intensifying, the administration is implementing measures to mitigate potential drinking water shortages. Supply mechanisms including tank distribution, borewell systems, and motor-based delivery are being coordinated with municipal authorities to ensure adequate water availability across the region.

Unresolved matters affecting beneficiaries in L2 and L3 categories are expected to be addressed through Cabinet-level deliberations in the coming period.
