Telangana Advances Bakrid Holiday to May 28 Following Wakf Board Request

Hyderabad — The Telangana state administration has revised the date of the Bakrid holiday, moving the observance of Eid-ul-Azha from May 27 to May 28, 2026. The adjustment has been made under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, with the festive holiday now falling on Thursday.
The change came after the Telangana Wakf Board and the Minorities Welfare Department formally requested a modification to the original holiday schedule. M. Saleem, Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana Wakf Board, submitted a letter to the government seeking the revision, which was subsequently forwarded by the Minorities Welfare Department for official consideration.
The General Administration Department has amended the previous orders that were initially issued as G.O.Rt.No.1716 on December 6, 2025. The updated notification now designates May 28, 2026, as the official date for the Eid-ul-Azha holiday across the state.
The revised order, issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on May 22, 2026, will be published in an extraordinary edition of the Telangana Gazette. Notification of the change has been distributed to district collectors, various government departments, constitutional authorities, and financial institutions throughout the state.
