Telangana Extends Age Eligibility for Government Recruitment to 44 Years

Hyderabad — In a significant move to address employment challenges, the Telangana government has expanded the age eligibility window for general category state government jobs. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has formally announced the policy change through official orders.
The new framework permits candidates up to 44 years of age to apply for general government positions, marking a substantial increase from the previous ceiling of 34 years. This 10-year relaxation represents a major policy shift for recruitment in the state.
The expanded age criteria will be applicable to all recruitment notifications released by state agencies over the ensuing 12 months, ensuring a broader pool of eligible candidates across multiple rounds of hiring.
Rationale Behind the Decision
The government's decision stems from persistent appeals by jobless individuals who highlighted the impact of protracted delays in recruitment processes that have accumulated since Telangana's establishment as a separate state. Officials factored in the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which further stalled the issuance and execution of recruitment notifications.
Exclusions for Uniformed Services
The age relaxation carries an important caveat: it does not extend to positions in uniformed services where specific physical fitness requirements remain mandatory. Consequently, the existing age criteria will remain in force for recruitment in the police department, excise department, fire services, prisons, and forest department.
The policy takes effect immediately for all general recruitment notifications issued by various recruitment bodies operating within Telangana during the designated period.
