Telangana Charts Course to Emerge as Premier Education and Sports Destination

Hyderabad: Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has articulated plans to position the state as a premier national destination for education and sports through comprehensive institutional overhauls and infrastructure development.

At an event held at LB Stadium on Friday, Revanth Reddy unveiled the Young India student kit programme, benefiting 27.50 lakh students across the state. Simultaneously, he initiated construction of sports complexes in multiple districts, marking a significant step toward the state's broader developmental agenda.

The vision hinges on two flagship institutions: Young India Integrated Residential Schools and the Young India Sports University, both designed to serve as cornerstones of the state's transformation strategy.

Preparing Youth for Technological Disruption

Acknowledging the disruptive potential of artificial intelligence on global employment landscapes, Revanth Reddy emphasised that the state must equip its youth with competitive skills. In response, the government has rolled out skill development initiatives targeting emerging sectors and labour market demands. The curriculum now includes German and Japanese language instruction alongside English, aimed at expanding opportunities for overseas employment.

The state has undertaken a structural shift in vocational training, converting Industrial Training Institutes into Advanced Technology Centres. A dedicated Skill University has been established to nurture professionals aligned with industry requirements. Addressing students from welfare hostels, the Chief Minister encouraged them to aspire toward positions in medicine, civil services, and political leadership while contributing meaningfully to state and national progress.

Financial Commitment and Policy Priorities

Revanth Reddy attributed educational deterioration to the previous BRS administration's policies, citing inadequate support for government institutions. Upon assuming office, his government increased nutritional and personal care allowances for students in state-run facilities and prioritised the revival of government schools.

When questioned about the absence of a separate Education Minister, Revanth Reddy explained that he retained the portfolio to ensure direct oversight of educational reforms. He pointed to increased enrolment in government schools as evidence of restored public confidence in state education systems.

The government has allocated 8.5 percent of the state budget to education, with Rs.26,600 crore earmarked for the sector in fiscal year 2026-27, reflecting a sustained commitment to the Education and Sports Hub initiative.
