Telangana Holds Comprehensive Disaster Preparedness Review Exercise at State Command Centre

Hyderabad: State authorities in Telangana carried out an extensive disaster preparedness exercise on Friday at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre, evaluating the government's readiness to handle floods, forest fires, and industrial mishaps.

The tabletop simulation was conducted as part of the state's broader disaster management mock exercise initiative. The exercise was overseen by Fire Services Director General Vikram Singh Mann and Revenue Secretary Hari Chandana Dasari, with Major General Sudhir Bahl, Lead Consultant at the National Disaster Management Authority, guiding officials through the procedures.

The exercise aimed to test the functionality of the Incident Response System and examine coordination mechanisms across multiple departments during emergency situations. Participants reviewed the state's emergency response readiness and evaluated how Emergency Support Functions would perform at both state and district administrative levels.

The simulation underscored the importance of seamless coordination between the State Disaster Management Authority, TGICCC, SDRF, district administrations, police, fire departments, and various other government agencies. Officials examined disaster scenarios, response protocols, information sharing systems, and procedures for mobilising resources. The review enabled departments to identify improvements needed for swift and coordinated action when actual emergencies occur.

Representatives from 47 Central and state government agencies took part in the exercise, which specifically concentrated on strengthening systems for managing floods, forest fires, and industrial accidents.

The exercise is part of a larger programme that includes full-scale field drills scheduled for May 18, 2026, across multiple districts throughout Telangana. These upcoming drills will test how disaster response functions at the grassroots level, with authorities having already identified specific locations for the simulations.

The state coordinated the exercise under the supervision of senior administrative and disaster management officials. During the programme, authorities also recognised several Yuva Aapda Mitra volunteers for their contributions.
