Hyderabad: During a Monday video conference with District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy pressed officials to accelerate the Special Intensive Revision mapping exercise across the state.

Addressing Collectors and DEOs, Sudharshan Reddy set an ambitious target of achieving 90 percent mapping progress before the month concludes. He indicated that the Election Commission of India is expected to formally launch the Special Intensive Revision programme in the coming days.

The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized the need for broader participation in the mapping initiative. He called upon residential associations and gated communities to actively participate in the process and urged government employees to voluntarily coordinate with Booth Level Officers to complete their personal mapping.

To ensure comprehensive coverage, Sudharshan Reddy instructed EROs, AEROs, BLO Supervisors and BLOs to conduct joint field visits to gated communities and slum settlements. Local representatives were directed to be enlisted to facilitate effective mapping across all areas.

Focus on Verification and Data Accuracy

The mapping exercise will prioritize voter verification and data cleansing. Officials have been tasked with identifying deceased voters, those who have relocated, and individuals whose residential addresses have permanently changed. All such cases must be processed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures.

To facilitate the process, help desks are to be established at various locations to guide voters through the mapping exercise. The Chief Electoral Officer further directed the involvement of self-help groups, ration shop dealers, and employee associations as partners in the initiative.

Special attention has been given to mapping VIPP and VIP voters within their respective constituencies. Collectors have been instructed to hold weekly meetings every Wednesday with political party representatives to monitor and review mapping progress on an ongoing basis.

Safeguards and Public Awareness

Security measures have been reinforced, with Sudharshan Reddy warning Booth Level Officers against disclosing information or one-time passwords to any unauthorized individuals. The Chief Electoral Officer made clear that strict enforcement action will be taken against those who breach these security guidelines.

Officials have also been directed to identify and promptly correct any mapping errors that may be detected during the verification process. To ensure public awareness, Collectors are to mount extensive publicity campaigns through both print and electronic media outlets to inform citizens about the Special Intensive Revision process.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vasan Venkateshwar Reddy, along with nodal officers, project managers, technical personnel, and other election officials, participated in the video conference.
