Telangana to Build 53 Advanced Technology Centres with ₹2,000 Crore Investment

Hyderabad: The Telangana government plans to construct 53 Advanced Technology Centres throughout the state, marking a major push to strengthen technical education and workforce development. Labour, Employment and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy unveiled the plan on Thursday, committing ₹2,000 crore to the project.

The announcement came during a ceremony where the minister inaugurated the foundation stone for an Advanced Technology Centre in Rangareddygudem, located in Rajapur mandal of Mahabubnagar district.

"Skill development and employment generation have been given top priority by our government," Venkatswamy stated. The state has already transformed 65 underperforming ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres, channelling approximately ₹2,200 crore into this conversion process.

Strong Response to New Facilities

The existing Advanced Technology Centres have demonstrated remarkable uptake, with admissions reaching 90 per cent capacity. The minister attributed this success to curricula designed with industry requirements in mind and the rising appetite for skills-based learning among students.

Venkatswamy emphasised the importance of combining technical expertise with formal education. "Students must develop practical technical competencies alongside their academic studies to enhance their job prospects and compete effectively in today's global employment market," he noted.

International Employment Focus

The state's Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM) initiative has garnered significant interest from youth seeking international opportunities. The government has earmarked ₹90 crore in its budget to support internationally certified skill programmes and overseas job placements.

National Recognition

Telangana has gained recognition as a leading example nationally for revamping traditional ITIs into modern technology-focused institutions. The central government has acknowledged this achievement, and a multi-state committee has been established to examine the Telangana model. Vivek Venkatswamy chairs this committee.
