Swiggy Rolls Out "Mum's Choice" Programme to Expand Maternal Participation in Delivery Operations

Chennai: Swiggy has unveiled a dedicated programme aimed at recruiting mothers into its delivery partner network. The "Mum's Choice" initiative represents the company's effort to address specific barriers mothers encounter when pursuing flexible work arrangements.
The programme eliminates several constraints that traditionally limit participation. Delivery partners operating under the scheme face no mandatory minimum login requirements, are not assigned long-distance deliveries, and receive compensation structured around standard shift patterns. For mothers lacking personal transportation, Swiggy is offering subsidised electric vehicle rentals to remove financial obstacles to entry.
The initiative tackles a fundamental tension: mothers seeking work flexibility often struggle against scheduling systems designed with different constraints in mind. By recalibrating its operational framework, Swiggy aims to accommodate the competing demands of income generation and household responsibilities.
"Our internal research revealed that mothers wish to participate as delivery partners, yet our existing model did not accommodate their needs," explained Saurav Goyal, Senior Vice President and Head of Driver and Delivery Organisation at Swiggy. "For most mothers, time represents an exceptionally scarce commodity. Through this initiative, we are restructuring our approach to align with how mothers manage their daily lives, rather than expecting them to conform to conventional shift patterns or abandon family obligations. We anticipate this will inspire greater maternal participation, contributing to their financial autonomy and improving their economic circumstances."
The company has positioned this initiative within a broader strategy toward inclusive economic participation. Swiggy has previously partnered with the National Stock Exchange to deliver financial education programmes and established sanitation infrastructure partnerships, framing these efforts as components of a wider ecosystem designed to make gig work more accessible and equitable for women workers. The "Mum's Choice" programme represents an extension of this commitment.
