Hyderabad: Construction work on the KBR Park flyover project has been halted by the Supreme Court following an interim stay order issued on Monday, with proceedings adjourned until July 27.

The state government had commenced flyover construction near KBR Park before the court intervened. Once the judicial directive came through, work ceased immediately.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is spearheading the Grade Separator Corridor Project, designed to alleviate traffic bottlenecks affecting the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills regions.

According to project administrators, the initiative seeks to reconcile urban infrastructure needs with environmental conservation through what officials term a "Green Hyderabad" framework.

Legal Challenge to Infrastructure Project

GHMC representatives have asserted that the project's blueprint incorporates safeguards for the environmentally sensitive areas around KBR Park. The authorities maintain they have adopted a "Zero Park Intrusion" approach to guide the project's execution.

Officials confirmed that construction would be restricted to existing road medians, ensuring no expansion into park territory itself.

The municipal corporation clarified that no trees within KBR Park would be felled for this initiative. Instead, trees located on the road's central median would be moved to alternative sites using transplantation methods.

Despite these assurances, a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice B. V. Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan determined that an interim stay on tree removal activities around the park was warranted.
