Hyderabad: IPS officer B. Sumathi officially took charge as Malkajgiri Police Commissioner on Friday, marking a historic moment as the first woman to lead the commissionerate. Following a formal reception by senior police personnel, she outlined her strategic priorities during an address to the media.

Describing her appointment as a significant milestone, Sumathi emphasized that her role carries both honour and responsibility. She committed to delivering transparent and efficient policing services as her core objective.

The newly appointed commissioner noted that Malkajgiri has maintained its standing as a relatively peaceful region. She pledged that the police force would uphold law and order without any compromise.

Leveraging Technology for Crime Prevention

Sumathi underscored the critical role that modern technological solutions will play in tackling crime. She specifically referenced AI-powered platforms such as TG QUEST as instrumental tools for the commissionerate's operations.

Acknowledging the surge in cybercrime incidents, the commissioner stressed that her team would adopt both process-oriented and result-oriented strategies to address such offences. The police will work to ensure swift and informed justice for victims while simultaneously launching public awareness initiatives to inform citizens about cyber threats.

Tackling Drug Trafficking and Traffic Congestion

The commissioner identified drug trafficking and consumption as pressing social issues requiring comprehensive prevention, detection, and investigation efforts. She noted that AI-enabled surveillance systems would be deployed to help protect young people from falling victim to substance abuse, thereby strengthening the force's enforcement capabilities against narcotics-related crimes.

Traffic management emerged as another key priority for Sumathi. Given mounting vehicle congestion across the region, she emphasized the necessity for rigorous traffic regulation. The police department plans to implement measures designed to optimize traffic flow and enhance commuter safety throughout the commissionerate.

In closing remarks, Sumathi expressed her gratitude to the government and the Director General of Police for her appointment. She reaffirmed her commitment to transparent operations and adherence to government directives in all police activities.
