Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Emphasizes Transparent SIR Implementation

Hyderabad: Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy has instructed state officials to carry out the SIR process with complete transparency while maintaining accuracy in the voter rolls. Speaking to media representatives in Hyderabad, Reddy outlined that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 initiative seeks to establish a thorough electoral roll free from inaccuracies.

The Chief Electoral Officer rejected claims that the exercise prevents fresh voter registrations. Training programmes for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents have been completed to facilitate effective rollout, Reddy stated.

Enumeration phase set to launch June 25

According to Reddy's announcement, BLOs will commence door-to-door distribution of enumeration forms from June 25 in accordance with Election Commission directives. The deadline for voters to return completed forms has been set for July 25.

Reddy made clear that newly eligible voters retain the ability to register by using the same enumeration form. The mapping phase has progressed to approximately 80 percent completion in numerous locations, he noted.

Government-issued identity documents will be accepted during the verification stage, Reddy confirmed. Those individuals enrolled during the 2002 exercise need not furnish further documentation, the officer added.

Final roll publication scheduled for October 1

The Chief Electoral Officer pledged adherence to the Election Commission's prescribed timeline, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on October 1. To support the revision initiative, the electoral department is in the process of hiring data entry operators.

Booth Level Officers' collected forms are presently being integrated into draft electoral rolls. Reddy also indicated that election officials plan to engage in consultations with political parties as part of the revision procedures.
