BRS Leader Sravan Dasoju Raises Concerns Over Law and Order Situation in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Questions about the state of law and order in the city have been raised by BRS MLC Dr. Sravan Dasoju, who on Tuesday condemned the Telangana government following an incident in which Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumati was reportedly harassed by rowdy sheeters.

The BRS leader issued a sharp rebuke of the Congress administration, expressing doubts about whether public safety is adequately protected under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's leadership.

Drawing a parallel to concerns about women's security, Sravan Dasoju contended that if a high-ranking police officer could face harassment within the city, the safety of ordinary women residents cannot be assured. He invoked Mahatma Gandhi's observations on the subject, describing the current situation as a "Rowdy Raj" under the present dispensation.

The incident, according to Sravan Dasoju, points to deeper systemic issues within the police apparatus. He characterized the situation as revealing both a breakdown in policing effectiveness and a diminishing deterrent effect of law enforcement on criminal elements.

Drawing on data from the National Crime Records Bureau and police records, Sravan Dasoju highlighted what he described as an upward trend in crimes targeting women across Hyderabad in recent times. He noted that cases involving harassment, stalking, and offences against women's modesty have been increasing throughout Telangana.

The BRS leader further questioned the operational effectiveness of the Integrated Command and Control Centre, alleging that surveillance infrastructure is being repurposed for political gain rather than serving genuine public protection interests.

Sravan Dasoju also contended that police resources are being diverted away from their core public safety mandate toward political assignments. He specifically raised questions about the non-deployment of SHE Teams, patrol vehicles, and Blue Colts during the incident affecting the police commissioner.

Pointing to the Chief Minister's dual responsibility for both governance and the Home portfolio, Sravan Dasoju demanded clarity and accountability. He posed questions about whether patrol units have been redirected to support political events, public rallies, and high-profile movements.

The BRS leader concluded by asserting that Hyderabad's residents have a legitimate expectation of improved policing standards and enhanced measures to ensure public safety.
