Hyderabad Launches Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls Across Municipal Corporation

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls commenced across Hyderabad's Municipal Corporation on Thursday, with Municipal Commissioner Praful Desai overseeing the initiative to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral registration process.

Desai convened a comprehensive review meeting at the Urban Tahsildar's office with representatives from Urban, Rural and Kothapalli Municipal Revenue Offices, along with revenue personnel and administrative staff. The gathering focused on implementation strategies for the voter list revision and the logistics of distributing application forms to eligible citizens.

The Commissioner personally visited several neighbourhoods to monitor the exercise on the ground, issuing directives to Mandal Revenue Officers and Booth Level Officers to execute the revision with rigour and accountability.

Household-to-household registration drive

A key component of the revision process involves Booth Level Officers conducting door-to-door visits to every household, providing two voter revision forms to each family unit. Officers have been instructed to clarify the application procedures to residents and maintain detailed daily records of form distribution at their respective polling stations.

To facilitate the exercise, officials have been equipped with comprehensive kits containing voter revision forms and 17 other essential materials required for the process.

Ensuring accuracy and inclusion

Desai emphasised the importance of including all eligible voters in the electoral rolls while simultaneously identifying and removing duplicate entries, multiple registrations, and records of deceased individuals. Revenue officials received explicit instructions to verify any address changes and, where feasible, to ensure that family members are grouped within the same polling station.

The registration drive also aims to enrol all citizens who have recently turned 18 years old and meet the eligibility criteria for voting.

Public participation critical to success

Recognising the need for community engagement, the Commissioner stressed the importance of public awareness initiatives throughout the revision period. He appealed to residents to work cooperatively with election officials to ensure the successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision process, which is designed to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the electoral register.
