Telangana Media Academy Briefs Journalists on Electoral Roll Revision Process

Hyderabad: The Telangana Media Academy convened an informational session on Monday to acquaint journalists with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process used for updating electoral rolls in the state.

Held at the Media Academy's auditorium in Nampally, the session brought together representatives from the Chief Electoral Officer's office to walk participants through the mechanics and significance of the voter list revision exercise.

K. Srinivas Reddy, who heads the Media Academy, oversaw the proceedings. B. Chennayya, a Special Grade Deputy Collector, and D. Chiranjeevi, IT Manager at the Chief Electoral Officer's office, delivered a detailed presentation covering the SIR process, its stated objectives, and the procedural steps involved.

The officials provided comprehensive coverage of voter registration procedures, the correction and updating of personal information on electoral rolls, as well as the addition and removal of names. They also detailed the door-to-door verification component of the revision initiative and fielded questions from the assembled journalists to address any uncertainties regarding the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Srinivas Reddy underscored the fundamental role electoral rolls serve in democratic governance. He emphasised that timely and accurate dissemination of information to the public remains essential, and highlighted the media's critical function in informing citizens about Election Commission initiatives.

The chairman called upon journalists to build comprehensive knowledge of the SIR process and ensure that citizens receive factual reporting on the matter.

Journalists representing print, broadcast, and online news outlets from across Telangana attended in substantial numbers. Nagulapalli Venkateswara Rao, Secretary of the Telangana Media Academy, was also present at the session.

The gathering offered media professionals a chance to deepen their understanding of how the voter roll revision process operates.
