Telangana's Police Chief Shivadhar Reddy Steps Down After Three Decades of Service

Hyderabad — Telangana's police leadership witnessed a transition on Thursday as Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy formally ended his three-decade tenure in the force. The outgoing officer was accorded a ceremonial send-off at the Hyderabad Police Academy parade grounds.

During the event, Reddy reflected on his extensive career, describing his time in the police force as having provided him with "a wealth of experiences and memories." He spoke about the evolution of policing practices during his years in service, noting the movement away from conventional methods toward contemporary strategies.

Among the initiatives he highlighted was "Friendly Policing," a programme that he credited with strengthening the relationship between the police department and the public during his leadership.

Reddy expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for entrusting him with the position of DGP. He used the occasion to encourage the younger generation of officers to preserve the integrity and standing of the police department.

C.V. Anand has assumed the role of Director General of Police, succeeding Reddy. The outgoing chief extended his congratulations to his successor as the state police force enters a new chapter under fresh leadership.

Anand acknowledged Reddy's accomplishments in law enforcement, particularly his efforts in combating Naxal activities and overseeing significant operations. He specifically referenced Reddy's contributions through "Operation Kagar," under which substantial quantities of weapons used by Maoist groups were seized. Anand also commended Reddy's work in facilitating the surrender of members from militant organisations.

The incoming police chief reaffirmed his commitment to the foundational principle that safeguarding Telangana's honour constitutes the paramount duty of the police service. Anand indicated his intention to maintain collaborative relationships with officers across the department and remain receptive to their counsel and input.
