Special Teams Needed for Voter Verification Drive, Says Government Adviser

Hyderabad — Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir has called for the creation of specialized teams at the village, ward, and booth levels to undertake door-to-door verification of voters as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, stressing the importance of ensuring no eligible voter is excluded from the electoral rolls.

Shabbir Ali made this appeal after completing his own voter registration under the SIR initiative at his home in Kamareddy, with the process overseen by the in-charge Additional Collector.

Addressing those assembled, Shabbir Ali emphasized that voting represents a fundamental right in democratic systems. He urged Congress leaders, party functionaries, sarpanches, ward representatives, municipal councillors, booth-level agents, and election officials to work in tandem throughout the verification exercise.

Balancing Inclusion and Transparency

The government adviser stressed that both the Election Commission of India and state machinery must execute the revision with complete transparency and accountability. According to Shabbir Ali, each measure undertaken should reinforce public trust in the electoral framework.

He highlighted that officials must refrain from striking off legitimate and qualified voters from the rolls. Simultaneously, he emphasized the necessity of identifying and removing fraudulent registrations and ineligible entries to bolster the integrity of the process.

Shabbir Ali instructed Congress representatives and volunteers to undertake comprehensive household visits, examine voter registers at the booth level, and facilitate the enrollment of all individuals aged 18 and above who are eligible to vote.

Referencing concerns raised by democratic organizations regarding voter lists in certain states, Shabbir Ali urged both officials and political parties to exercise vigilance in safeguarding the credibility of electoral rolls.

"In a democratic system, every vote carries the same weight. It falls upon every political organization and every member of society to protect the voting rights of citizens. While ensuring that no qualified voter is excluded, it is equally vital to eliminate duplicate and invalid registrations to enhance the transparency of our electoral machinery," he stated.

The event was attended by Congress leaders, elected representatives, booth-level agents, party members, and electoral officials.
