The Telangana Government has issued a Gazette notification to allocate 10 acres of land valued at over Rs. 20 crore for a Muslim burial ground in Kamareddy district. Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir led the efforts to secure this land allotment.

According to officials, the graveyard allocation forms part of a comprehensive state programme aimed at ensuring adequate burial facilities for Muslims throughout Telangana. The administration chose Kamareddy, Shabbir Ali's home district, to launch the first phase of this initiative.

Shabbir Ali has been instrumental in advancing minority welfare policies for three decades. He established India's first Minority Welfare Department in united Andhra Pradesh in 1993 after assuming ministerial office at just 32 years of age. The Andhra Pradesh Government simultaneously introduced a dedicated minority welfare budget for 1993-94, initially allocated Rs. 2 crore.

The combined minority welfare budgets of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the 2026-27 financial year have now reached approximately Rs. 7,000 crore, reflecting substantial growth in resource allocation over the years.

Among his key contributions, Shabbir Ali championed a four per cent reservation for Muslims in education and employment under the BC-E category. This policy has reportedly benefited approximately 22 lakh economically weaker Muslims. The Genco Department issued the first appointment letter under this BC-E reservation scheme during 2006-07 when Shabbir Ali held the position of Energy Minister.

Between 2004 and 2009, Shabbir Ali also played a significant role in establishing pre-metric and post-metric hostels for minorities, English-medium residential schools, and Muslim mass marriage schemes. These programmes later evolved into TMREIS institutions and the Shaadi Mubarak scheme.

State officials characterize the latest land allotment for the graveyard as a major addition to Telangana's expanding minority welfare infrastructure.
