Hyderabad: The Telangana government has stepped in to shoulder additional airfare costs imposed on Haj pilgrims this year, with each devotee receiving Rs 10,000 in relief. The decision comes as the Haj Committee of India cited geopolitical circumstances in West Asia as the reason for the supplementary charges.

Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Advisor to the Telangana Government, made the announcement on Saturday while overseeing the departure of pilgrims from Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. Buses carrying the faithful departed from Haj House towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport following the ceremony.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's intervention has extended support to approximately 7,000 Telangana Haj pilgrims embarking on their spiritual voyage. The comprehensive arrangements underscore the state's commitment to facilitating the sacred journey for its citizens.

Syed Ghulam Afzal Biabani, Chairman of the Haj Committee, alongside committee members, religious scholars, officials, volunteers and community leaders participated in the flagging-off ceremony.

Nearly 4,000 Telangana Haj pilgrims have already reached the holy city of Mecca, with authorities coordinating the staggered departure of remaining devotees. Shabbir Ali emphasised the significance of the pilgrimage, describing it as a divine calling and blessing bestowed upon the selected pilgrims.

Drawing on Islamic teachings, Shabbir Ali quoted Hadith to explain that a properly conducted Haj cleanses believers of their transgressions, comparing the spiritual renewal to that of a newborn. He counselled the pilgrims to exercise patience and maintain discipline throughout their journey, particularly during immigration procedures, baggage handling and other travel protocols.

Referencing the Prophet Mohammed's (PBUH) invocation for ease during Haj, Shabbir Ali encouraged the pilgrims to remain composed amid the logistical complexities of international travel.

The Advisor urged pilgrims to dedicate themselves to worship at the Haram Sharif, continuously reciting the Talbiyah prayer throughout their expedition. He stressed the importance of sincere devotion upon viewing the Holy Kaaba, asserting that genuine prayers receive divine attention.

Given the intense heat conditions during the pilgrimage season, Shabbir Ali advised the pilgrims to prioritise their wellbeing by consuming adequate water, eating mindfully and heeding medical guidance. He cautioned against engaging in unnecessary disputes and worldly preoccupations, instead encouraging spiritual introspection and worship.

Beyond spiritual matters, Shabbir Ali highlighted the importance of educational advancement and social development within the community. He noted that reservation policies have benefited numerous individuals and stressed the relevance of acquiring contemporary skills, particularly in Artificial Intelligence, for future progress.

Before concluding the ceremony, Shabbir Ali requested the pilgrims to offer prayers for peace, prosperity and national development. He also appealed to them to remember him and other community members in their supplications at Makkah and Madina.

The Advisor commended the Haj Committee members and volunteers for their sustained service in supporting pilgrims across multiple years.
