Telangana to Host Week-Long Seed Fairs at Over 2,600 Farmer Centres

Telangana's government is set to roll out seed fairs across 2,601 Rythu Vedikas throughout the state during June 23-30, making quality seeds and expert agricultural guidance accessible to farmers in a coordinated effort.

The week-long initiative is designed to equip farmers with certified seeds at reasonable prices on a unified platform. State Agriculture Department officials emphasize that the programme responds to current weather patterns and potential El Niño effects by promoting cultivation of pulses, oilseeds, millets and vegetables suited to these conditions.

The fairs will showcase pulse varieties including green gram, black gram and red gram. Farmers will have access to oilseed options such as sesame and groundnut, as well as diverse millet and vegetable seed selections. The department has also arranged nano urea and nano DAP products to support integrated nutrient management strategies.

Several fine rice varieties will be on offer, determined by farmer requirements and market demand. These comprise BPT-5204, RNR-15048 (Telangana Sona), Jaisriram, KNM-1638, KNM-7715, WGL-44 and HMT Sona.

The seed fairs will feature participation from agriculture officials, horticulture specialists and research scientists. These experts plan to counsel farmers on optimal seed selection, seed treatment procedures and science-based cultivation methods. Discussion topics will encompass proper fertiliser application, irrigation techniques and integrated pest management. Notably, specialists will also advise on water-efficient crop alternatives and recommend cultivation choices aligned with shifting climatic patterns and El Niño scenarios.

Agriculture Director Dr B. Gopi has called upon farmers to take full advantage of the seed fair programme and embrace scientific farming approaches to boost productivity. He underscored that access to quality certified seeds forms the cornerstone of enhanced agricultural output.
