Petrol and Diesel Prices Surge Again; Second Hike in Seven Days

Petrol and diesel prices have climbed across India for the second time in a week, with fuel costs rising by approximately 90 paise per litre nationwide. The price adjustment reflects the surge in international crude oil markets, with officials attributing the increase to escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia and concerns about potential supply chain disruptions.
The revision by oil companies comes as Brent crude oil prices have breached the 100-dollar threshold, driven by mounting tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran. This spike in global crude costs has directly translated into higher fuel prices for Indian consumers.
In Hyderabad, petrol prices jumped by 99 paise to reach Rs 111.88 per litre, while diesel also increased by 99 paise to Rs 99.95 per litre. The financial impact on consumers has been substantial across major metropolitan areas.
Delhi witnessed petrol prices rise by 87 paise to Rs 98.64 per litre, with diesel climbing 91 paise to Rs 91.58 per litre. Kolkata saw petrol prices increase by 96 paise, reaching Rs 109.70 per litre, while Mumbai recorded a 91 paise increase, bringing petrol to Rs 107.59 per litre.
In Chennai, petrol prices went up by 82 paise to Rs 104.49 per litre. Diesel prices have also experienced significant increases across multiple cities, with Kolkata and Mumbai both recording 94 paise hikes per litre. Diesel now stands at Rs 96.07 in Kolkata and Rs 94.08 in Mumbai.
The consecutive price hikes underscore the vulnerability of India's fuel market to international crude oil fluctuations and geopolitical developments affecting global energy supplies.
