South Central Railway Launches World Environment Day 2026 Campaign

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway formally kicked off its World Environment Day 2026 initiative on Friday with an event at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad. The campaign operates under the banner "Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth."
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava presided over the launch programme, which featured an Environmental Pledge and signature drive. Senior railway officials, employees, and Railway Protection Force personnel participated in the event.
Following directives from the Railway Board, SCR plans to roll out a comprehensive three-week awareness drive spanning May 15 through June 5. The campaign will reach across railway divisions, stations, residential colonies, workshops, field installations and head offices throughout the network.
The initiative incorporates community engagement activities aligned with the Mission LiFE framework, designed to foster environmentally conscious behaviour among citizens.
Srivastava underscored the significance of the pledge as a collective commitment to environmental stewardship through sustainable and eco-conscious methodologies. He outlined that the year's focus areas encompass climate action awareness, the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" tree-planting initiative, air quality improvements, development of green spaces, and responsible waste disposal systems.
The campaign will further emphasise proper electronic waste management and support railway operations' transition toward Net Zero Emissions objectives.
Vinod Kumar detailed SCR's existing environmental programmes, which include large-scale tree-planting efforts, removal of plastic single-use items, waste processing systems, water resource management, and expansion of clean energy infrastructure.
Railway officials indicated that the campaign would deepen environmental consciousness among both railway personnel and the general public across SCR's operational areas. They noted that these outreach initiatives aim to cultivate enduring commitment to ecological sustainability and responsible environmental stewardship.
