Former Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy Pushes for Civic Improvements in Hyderabad's Badangpet and Meerpet

Hyderabad: Former Minister and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy has intensified efforts to address longstanding civic grievances affecting residents of Badangpet and Meerpet. On Wednesday, she presented a detailed representation to district in-charge Minister D. Sridhar Babu outlining multiple infrastructure and public service challenges requiring government intervention.
Among the pressing issues flagged by the legislator was the burden of high property taxes in the Meerpet Municipal Corporation jurisdiction, where residents have reportedly struggled with mounting financial obligations. Sabitha Indra Reddy also highlighted the need to resolve complications arising from a 33 KV high-tension power line running through Badangpet.
The MLA has called for accelerated implementation of the government's affordable housing scheme, specifically requesting faster construction and allocation of double-bedroom dwellings to deserving families below the poverty line. She has additionally advocated for infrastructure improvements, including the construction of an elevated roadway at Balapur crossroads to alleviate traffic congestion in the locality.
Public health and sanitation featured prominently in the agenda, with Sabitha Indra Reddy seeking approval for a community swimming facility to be established and managed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The proposal aims to enhance recreational and health amenities available to the public.
Water supply and urban planning concerns also formed key components of the submission. The representative urged authorities to resolve complications within the HMDA master plan pertaining to the reclassification of green spaces and residential zones in Almasguda. Additionally, she pressed for the implementation of a free drinking water distribution programme guaranteeing 20 litres daily to each household in slum settlements, to be facilitated through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
Minister Sridhar Babu received the representation positively, indicating willingness to examine the raised concerns and initiate corrective measures. The meeting was attended by former municipal councillors, Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi representatives, and local residents.
